PC4 ENGINES WELL PROVEN IN LARGE TANKERS
Some years ago a number of VLCC's were re-engined, with the existing steam turbines replaced by SEMT-Pielstick PC4 12-cylinder engines. The conversions are briefly described, and the results obtained are discussed. More recently a new VLCC propelled by two SEMT-Pielstick 8PC4-2L engines has been built. The propulsion plant installed is described in some detail, and the service results achieved are analysed.
