REFRIGERATED FISH-TRANSPORT SHIP KIROVETS

As part of the general plan of the Soviet fishing industry to modernise fishing vessels and increase catches, a new design for a small refrigerated ship-transport ship has been developed. The first ship of this new series, the Kirovets, has been added to the fleet in 1984. She is intended to operate mainly in coastal waters acting as a refrigerated transporter of fish and fish products between trawlers at sea and shore storage points or factories, or between shore storage points and distribution depots. The ship has two refrigerated holds amidships, in which four different temperatures regimes can be automatically maintained depending on the kind of fish product that is being carried. The engine-room and superstructure are aft, and accommodation spaces are aft and forward. The main engine, of 220kW output, drives a fixed-pitch propeller running in a nozzle rudder. Main particulars: Length o.a. 31.9m, b.p. 27.8; breadth 6.9m; depth (amidships) 3.2m; draught 2.1m; corresponding displacement 240 tonnes; speed 10.2 knots.
