THE DEVELOPMENT OF GUIDELINES FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF SUBMARINE PIPELINE SPANS - OVERALL SUMMARY REPORT
This report summarises the work performed over a period of four years to develop improved guidance for pipeline span assessment. The work began in October 1980 with a project definition study which was performed over a period of four months. Its objectives were to appraise the existing technology and approaches taken in the assessment of pipeline spans and to develop the requirements for the improvements needed on the overall span assessment methodology. The results from the entire programme were used to develop a system of guidance on span assessment using a phased sequence of analysis. Spans which are either clearly safe or critical can be identified at an early stage. Those which do not immediately fall into either of these categories can be analysed further by a more rigorous analysis.
