THE RESCUE BUOY AS A RESCUE SYSTEM FOR SUBMARINES
The device described is a spherical rescue buoy housed in a recess in the pressure hull above a pressure-tight bulkhead in the submarine. Access is available from either the forward or the after compartment of the submarine. The buoy is pressure-tight to the same depth as the submarine, can accommodate the complete crew, and can be released without outside help, while when it has risen to the surface it may be compared with an enclosed lifeboat.
