THE USE OF CO2 TO INERT COMPARTMENTS WITH FIRES

The action of inert gases used for firefighting is described, and the concentration of inert gas needed to provide an effective means of extinguishing a fire is derived. The problem of determining the concentration of inert gas actually present in a compartment is then considered, and methods of measuring this is practical tests are discussed. It is suggested that a thermal conductivity meter could be adapted to make it suitable for this purpose. Some results of tests in which this instrument was employed are given.
