NEW INSIGHTS INTO THE PROCESSING OF HIGH-STRENGTH WATER-QUENCHED AND TEMPERED STRUCTURAL STEEL STE 890

After describing the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the high-strength water-quenched and tempered structural steel StE 890 the authors discuss new insights into the processing of this material. The working of StE 890 (cold-forming, hot-forming, flame straightening) is examined in detail, ad are thermal cutting and welding (welding processes, filler materials, the cold-cracking behaviour of welded joints, and the effect of welding conditions on the mechanical properties of the heat-affected zone). The economic factors involved in the use of high-strength steels are also discussed.
