FINITE ELEMENT COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR ANALYSIS OF PLATES WITH BENDING AND IN-PLANE STRESSES
Computer stress analysis of continuous voided, posttensioned concrete bridge decks was performed to explain the appearance of cracks around the area of the voids after construction. This type of bridge superstructure design was developed by the Ontario ministry of transportation and communications. The two-dimensional finite element stress analysis system was designed such that the designer may perform analyses with little input/output effort. The limitations of the two-dimensional analysis, including bending and in-plane stresses, were clearly evident in end anchorage zones, at support points and in the wind area of the deck. To achieve a more refined analysis and a complete stress analysis capability, a three-dimensional system is currently being completed at the University of Waterloo. /TRRL/
