THE SAFETY OF SMALL OPEN DECK FISHING BOATS

The paper deals with the problem of establishing stability criteria for small coastal fishing vessels which are often built outside the Rules of the Classification Societies. General characteristics of the small open deck fishing boats in service in Poland are presented and their parameters are discussed from the standpoint of stability and seaworthiness. It is considered that traditional designs of wooden boats meet the Det norske Veritas requirements for minimum freeboard and stability for a particular heeling moment.
