EXPERIENCE IN THE APPLICATION OF CORROSION-PREVENTIVE WELDING IN CONTROLLABLE-PITCH PROPELLER HUBS

A number of cp propellers having hubs cast in X8CrNi14.1 alloy, which is nominally corrosion-resistant, have nevertheless suffered crevice corrosion at the apertures for mounting the blades to the hub. The remedy adopted has been to apply a bead of corrosion-resistant weld metal inside the apertures to act as a seating for the O-ring seals.
