ELECTRON BEAM AND LASER BEAM MATERIALS PROCESSING IN JAPAN

Japanese developments in the electron beam and laser beam welding processes are described and discussed. The difficulties that have been encountered in the use of high-power electron beam processing are described, and the solutions that have been studied in Japan are reviewed. The most significant applications of laser beam processing are described. A list of the welding methods currently in use, and those likely to be adopted in the future, for the welding of thick plates in Japan, is given.
