CROTALE NAVAL MISSILE SYSTEM

The Thomson-CSF Crotale naval missile is one of the few modern naval missiles to be developed from a land version. The current model is equipped with infrared differential tracking, and is a point defence missile system with all-weather anti-seaskimmer capability. The tracking system has a range of more than 20 km, and so can begin tracking in good time before engaging the target at the missile's maximum range of approx. 8.5 km, while the minimum range within which guidance of the missile is possible is only 500 m. The standard launcher consists of the fire director unit mounted coaxially with the launcher unit, which has eight sets of rails for missile canisters. In the standard set, which weighs over 30 tons and so is suitable only for mounting on ships of 600 tonnes displacement, there is also a magazine with either 16 or 8 reload canisters, while a lightweight version, the Modular Crotale Naval, has been developed for installation on fast attack craft down to 200 tonnes displacement. .sp2 MISCELLANEOUS
