The findings of this survey made by an insurance company are: 1. 15.4% of cars have tyres of insufficient tread depth; 2. 21.6% of cars in single vehicle accidents had insufficient tread depth; 3. Of 1970-74 models, 19.7% of cars damaged in accidents had abnormal tyre wear due to faulty alignment or tyre pressure; 4. 22% of cars had tyres of different makes, and 4.7% of different dimensions. It was also found that drivers who had tyres with wear indicators did not know they had them, nor what they looked like. /TRRL/
