TRANSPORT IN SWEDEN
TRANSPORTER I SVERIGE
There is a close and mutual dependence between the development of society and the functions of transport. Many of the recent changes in society have been partly due to the rapid developments in transport. The expansion of passenger transport has given people increased mobility. Most journeys are to and from work, but education and medical care also account for a large proportion. Developments in goods transport have brought about changes in business structure and consumption patterns. The report describes road, rail, shipping and air installations, the structure of, and changes in, goods transport by road, rail, water and air, And gives a breakdown by mode. There is a forecast concerning goods transport for the next 25 years. A description is given of the structure of all types of passenger transport, recent changes, a breakdown by mode, A forecast for the next 25 years. A separate volume contains reports on which the forecasts have been based. /TRRL/
