LIGHT AND LIGHTING
The article discusses the role of artificial light in ensuring the safety of ships at sea. The use of navigation lights, searchlights and image intensifiers is examined for various marine applications. Some practical guidelines are provided for the three main forms of shipboard lighting, i.e. in working areas during the hours of darkness, accommodation lighting and emergency lighting.
