A LIBRARY ON THE LINE
The possibility of ships acquiring access to shore-based databases via satellite communications is discussed. Some pilot work is described; at present this is largely limited to news services. It is suggested that the main requirement for databases will be for those that contain volatile information, particularly of a commercial nature; fixed information can probably best be disseminated in printed form.
