THE IHC MODULAR DRAGHEAD. A NEW SYSTEM FOR DEALING WITH ALL TYPES OF SOIL

The modular draghead system comprises a universal connector to which replaceable visors, cutting tools, and jet nozzles can be attached. The underlying concept is the separation of functions, with the relatively heavy connector remaining attached to the suction pipe, while the relatively light visor, which conducts the water used for transport purposes, and the aids to excavation such as water jets or mechanical cutting tools, are easily changed. The components making up the system are described, and the results of dredging tests at sea, which also involved changing the visor, are given.
