ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FOR DIFFICULT ENVIRONMENTS
It is good practice for the designer of electronic equipment to use the minimum number of electrical connectors consistent with the reasonable requirements of the equipment concerned; he must also ensure, when selecting the connectors, that electromagnetic interference and related problems are among the matters given adequate attention. With these and other considerations in view, the Author reviews in detail a number of connectors and associated accessories, for electronic applications, produced by AMP (whose range of accessories includes "Quiet Line" filters), Ferranti Connection Systems (whose "Versacon" connector is mainly for the high-density "packaging" requirements common in military and avionics equipment, Plessey Connectors (whose connectors meet the corrosion-resistance and other special requirements of the marine environment), and Phoenix Contact (who have considerable experience in developing connectors to meet the exacting demands of nuclear environments.
