MEASURED INITIAL DISTORTIONS IN THE PLATING OF STIFFENED PANELS
Initial distortions in stiffened panels exert an effect on the ultimate strength, the buckling mode component being the most important parameter of the initial deflection shape. This report presents detailed measurements of distortions in stiffened panels in different parts of the three ships. The results demonstrate the existence of the buckling mode component in many of the measured panels. The maximum distortions and the buckling mode component are predicted and some published formulas are reviewed.
