EXPERIENCE OF PERFORATION UNDER DRAWDOWN USING TUBING CONVEYED GUNS ON THE BEATRICE FIELD

The perforation, under drawdown, of Beatrice production wells is described. A technique has been developed which enables perforations to be carried out under controlled underbalance conditions and allows well cleanup by means of a subsequent free-flow period. This, together with a pressure build-up, enables the well productivity index to be determined, and hence aids in the sizing of the electrical submersible pumps. So far 9 production wells have been perforated using tubing-conveyed guns; it is shown that this technique has resulted in a significant improvement in productivity compared with wells which have been perforated overbalanced, and it is thought that the consequent reduction in pump loading might enhance the life of the electrical submersible pumps.
