MODELLING AND GRAPHICAL DESCRIPTION OF AUTOMATIC WELDING PROCESSES
Flexible welding production cells form the basis of the automation of welding processes where small or medium-sized batches of components are concerned. The elements of such a cell are described; they include the actual welding device, the manipulation equipment for both the welding machine and the components, the control system, the quality-control system which monitors the welding process and corrects for any deviations, the magazine in which components are stored prior to welding, and the supply of consumables. To design such a unit and its control system it is necessary to model the process that is to be performed, and this can be done conveniently by means of flow charts employing standard symbols, which are described.
