A COMMUNICATIONS DEPLOYMENT ALTERNATIVE FOR IVHS
How to move IVHS toward deployment rapidly and simultaneously maintain non-chaotic evolution is the dilemma for those who seek to quickly deploy or utilize advanced transportation technologies. The authors propose that many of IVHS' communication needs can be met using the Public Network to be maintained by the private sector. This article examines a communications deployment alternative which capitalizes on the existing fiber optic telecommunications infrastructure to meet the needs of an advanced traffic management systems (ATMS) backbone.
