VEHICLE WEIGH-IN-MOTION WITH FIBRE OPTIC SENSORS
The different measurement requirements to detect and to weigh vehicles in motion on a road, but also for traffic monitoring, required studies and development on new techniques able to improve the current technologies, like piezo-electric systems, to replace or to complement them. The theoretical principle of measurement and some results obtained from a project conducted by the Alcatel Group, in collaboration with French Authorities represented by their laboratories Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussees (LCPC), are shown in this paper. The feasibility of using fibre optics applied to Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) is demonstrated. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 871202.
