INVESTIGATION OF VIBRATION BEHAVIOUR AND ROAD MODELING AS A CONDITION FOR COMFORT OPTIMIZATION OF HEAVY TRUCKS WITH DYNAMIC VEHICLE SIMULATION
This paper presents the application of multi-body simulation (MBS) to the design of different spring damper systems used in state-of-the-art heavy trucks. The search for higher comfort for drivers of these trucks has stimulated efforts to fine-tune the vibrational behaviour of vehicles using these systems. Tuning by simulation is possible, even before completion of the vehicle design. The vehicle-comfort model, used in the simulations, has to consider a large variety of vehicle parameters that affect vertical vibration behaviour. Different methods of verifying and validating the model can be applied, according to the required accuracy of the results. Simulation can be used to analyse vibration behaviour in the vehicle model in the following ways: (1) calculating a vehicle's natural frequencies; (2) finding out how to harmonise the natural frequencies of the chassis spring, cab spring and seat spring; (3) providing visual images of mode shapes; (4) providing animated pictures of motions of single bodies; and (5) optimising model parameters to avoid resonance effects.
