CHAPTER 7. CONGESTION METERING IN CAMBRIDGE CITY, UNITED KINGDOM
The background to plans to introduce congestion metering in Cambridge are traced. Alternative methods for metering congestion (zonal pricing, rates per km within a zone and dynamic charging) and the technology available to implement a scheme are outlined. The way in which a scheme would be applied to Cambridge is described and the application of congestion metering to other cities considered. Trials which took place in 1993 have provided information which is being used in the development of urban transport models. Problems to be overcome before the actual implementation of a scheme are discussed in particular the need for public acceptance. For the covering abstract see IRRD 869545.
