PRESTUDY OF FUEL ALCOHOL DRIVEN LORRIES

GEOTANOL: FOERSTUDIE AV MOTORALKOHOLDRIVNA LASTBILAR I GOETEBORG

The primary objective of this report is to show the technical, environmental and user-related possiblities that exist when using ethanol and methanol as fuels for regional/long distance and local truck service. The emphasis of the work describes how a project, involving 10 trucks as test vehicles, can be carried out, paying particular attention to vehicle operations,fuel handling and safety issues. Substantial environmental improvements are shown for fuel alcohols compared with today's best available diesel oil powered engine. Emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter will be reduced by 50%. NO technical barriers exist which could stop the project. Project costs are estimated to be 10,6 M SEK.
