AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION CONTROL MEASURES

This paper discusses the use of transportation control measures at airports to reduce the emissions associated with ground access vehicle trips. The effects of certain trip-reduction strategies on both airport employee and passenger vehicle miles of travel (VMT) are examined. Data from California airports are used. For employees, parking cash-out appears promising for VMT reduction. Also promising are improving transit service, offering fare discounts, and preferential parking for carpools. For passengers, parking fees, methanol as an alternative fuel for rental cars, and airport access fees appear promising for VMT reduction.
