WARRANTS FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AT LOW-VOLUME URBAN INTERSECTIONS

This article is a resource for traffic engineers developing revised warrants for traffic control devices at low-volume intersections in urban/suburban areas. The principal elements affecting selection of intersection traffic control are functional classification, traffic volumes, accident history, intersection geometry, and sight distance. Two special conditions that bear consideration of a warrant for intersection control are curb parking and pedestrian traffic. Based on the above factors, recommendations for suggested warrants are provided.
