EFFECTS OF DIAGONAL CRACKS IN MASONRY ARCH BRIDGES
A series of numerical models was analysed using a three-dimensional finite element computer program developed in the University of Nottingham for the assessment of masonry arch bridges. The effects of diagonal cracks on the load carrying capacity of masonry arch bridges were studied. The results may be used as a reference for assessment purposes in accordance with the MEXE method, as documented in publications by the Department of Transport (BD 21/93 and BA 16/93).
