ALIGNMENT OF SHAFTINGS -- NEW PRACTICAL MEANS OF VERIFICATION

The article has the aim of introducing a number of new tools and methods used by Bureau Veritas in the verification of shaft alignment. The methods and equipment used in optical checks are briefly reviewed. A comparison is made of the two main methods for measurement of the reactions of shafting supports, i.e. "weighing" and measurement of bending moments. The article concludes with a proposal for a system for the measurement of the dynamic behaviour of the propeller shaft in its supports.
