OIL COMPANIES WILL FUND TRONDHEIM TECHNOLOGY CENTRE
The Norwegian government has approved the creation of a Centre for Petroleum Technology to be financed by oil companies and built at Trondheim. The Centre will incorporate the petroleum technology department of the Norwegian Institute of Technology, SlNTEF, and the Continental Shelf Research Institute. It will also house the SlNTEF/ Esso Multiphase Flow Laboratory. The petroleum technology side of the project will be financed by Shell, Phillips, Elf, Statoil, and Norsk Hydro. The Multiphase Laboratory will be financed by Esso, Getty, Mobil, Texaco, and Statoil. The objectives of the new Centre are to promote safe and cost effective exploitation of Norwegian petroleum resources. Its main activities will be concerned with techniques of prospecting and extracting hydrocarbons from the reservoir, and transporting fluids up the well. When completed in 1986, the Centre is expected to have a staff of more than 100.
