The contents of Volume 2 of the South Dakota Department of Transportation's (SDDOT's) Information Systems Plan are as follows: Section 1 - Business Functions and Existing Application Support - assessment of key business functions and the degree of information systems support; Section 2 - Application Architecture - a "snap shot" of the SDDOT's existing computer applications and proposed projects; Section 3 - Technical Architecture - the current and future deployment of hardware, communications, and systems software; Section 4 - Organization Architecture - organization constraints and resource requirements for achieving the plan; Section 5 - Implementation Plan - the roadmap for "how" to move from the current architectures to the future architectures; Section 6 - Literature Review - review of pertinent literature regarding transportation information systems and the planning process; Section 7 - Emerging Technologies Review - review of emerging technologies as they apply to the SDDOT; Section 8 - Department-Wide Data Model Review - assessment of the appropriateness of performing a department-wide data model; Section 9 - Interim Mapping Solutions - review of interim mapping solutions and assessment of the SDDOT's long term strategic mapping solution; Bibliography; Appendix A - a table containing a summary of the results of the SDDOT application systems survey; and Appendix B - additional detail from the application systems survey.
