MODEL EXPERIMENTS FOR AN ICEBREAKING BULKER WITH THYSSEN/WAAS BOW FORM

Alternative bow forms for the icebreaking bulk carrier M.V. Arctic have been investigated in Canada with the aim to improve the icebreaking characteristics of the vessel. In a study described here, a further alternative based on the Thyssen/Waas-System was developed and compared with the existing bow form as well as the best of the Canadian designs in model test. Tests with models of three different bow forms were made at Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt <HSVA>. <CMO>.
