THE PREDICTION OF CORROSION BY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF CORROSION PROFILES

The analysis described in this paper is an attempt to develop a more rational approach to presenting section loss or penetration rate information, when the corrosion process exhibits a rough or pitted surface texture. The method presented provides a means for assessing corrosion allowances at a given level of risk, given sets of thickness data taken over the area of interest over a period of time, and hence may form a basis for assessing the lifetime of corrosion protection coatings or surface treatments.
