POWER MINIMIZATION IN DYNAMIC POSITIONING SYSTEMS

The importance of power minimization in dynamic positioning is discussed in the paper. A combined scale model and computer simulation study of the semi-submersible rig GVA 3000 is presented and both the static and dynamic behaviour of the rig under DP-control is analysed. Minimal power consumption is achieved by calculating the optimal thruster settings with the computer program THRUST. <CMO>.
