NEW DRILLING ISLAND CONCEPTS FOR BEAUFORT SEA

This article describes the caisson-retained island Tarsiut N-44 developed for drilling in water depths exceeding 20 m by Dome Petroleum, and the mobile islands and conical drilling unit being constructed for Gulf Canada by Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding and capable of working in water depths of 120 to 180 ft. Some information on the future drilling plans of Dome and Gulf is given.
