RESEARCH INTO REAL SHAPES OF SHIP PLATES

The deformations of ship plates during fabrication are of a stochastic nature, and therefore their investigation requires a statistical approach. This paper deals with the methods and equipment developed at the Technical University of Szczecin and applied in systematic full-scale measurements of plate deflections. The real shape of the deformed plates is approximated by means of a double Fourier series. The data for each measured plate comprising fabrication details, design and deflection measurements are collected in a data bank where they can be used for further analyses.
