ICE ACTION ON TWO CYLINDRICAL STRUCTURES

Ice action on two vertical cylindrical structures, placed side by side, has been investigated in order to determine the interference effects on the ice forces produced by the interaction between the structures and the ice. The effect was found to vary with the distance apart of the cylinders, disappearing when this amounted to four to five times the diameter of the structures. The effect of the interference was to reduce the ice forces and to modify the dominant frequency of the ice-induced vibrations.
