SHIP STEERING CONTROL SYSTEMS MODELLING AND CONTROL DESIGN
A dynamic cost function is proposed for minimisation of propulsion losses due to steering. The cost function is based on the separation of the low and high frequency motions of the ship. The low-frequency model consists of the ship model and the low-frequency effect of the wave. The proposed cost criteria include the coupling between yaw rate and sway velocity while being independent of the closed loop frequency of oscillation as needed in most commonly used criteria. The cost function is present in both time and frequency domains, and the possibility of identifying the parameters of the cost criteria on line is discussed.
