DESCRIPTION AND EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION OF A RATIONAL AND INTEGRATED METHODOLOGY TO CHECK PROPELLER DESIGN AND INTERACTION WITH HULL
This paper describes the methodologies adopted by CETENA and Italcantieri for provisional calculations of propeller-induced hull pressures. An outline of the developed computer program is presented and calculated pressure results for two ships are compared with experimental values obtained from full scale measurements. In particular, the results of calculations of propeller induced pressure at different points on the stern of a new generation, single screw, ro-ro containership are discussed and compared with the same parameters measured both on a ship model in the depressurised towing tank of N.S.M.B. and on the full scale ship fitted with the selected propeller.
