ELECTROSLAG CLADDING USING NICKEL BASE ALLOYS

Electroslag strip cladding has now been developed to the stage where it gives optimum results. The Authors, of Soudometal SA, Brussels, describe this cladding process and its characteristics, which include high deposition rates, low dilution, and easy application. For a given deposit thickness <of stainless steel strip>, the process can increase deposition rate by about 70% and reduce dilution by about a half, as compared with submerged-arc strip cladding. The article includes detailed information on cladding, with stainless steels and in particular with nickel alloys, by this process.
