WAVE LOADING ON OFFSHORE STRUCTURES: A REVIEW
In the field of offshore engineering there is a continuing need to update and review the information on wave loading available to the designer. The aim of this paper is to review progress in a few key research areas which are relevant to design and where notable advances have been made in recent years. The main topics under discussion are:- 1. Wave models/wave theories and their validity. 2. Morison's equation and diffraction: regimes of validity. 3. Forces on tubular members. 4. Forces on large-diameter members: wave diffraction theory. 5. Wave drift forces and related phenomena. 6. Dynamic response. 7. Probabilistic methods.
