A NEW STAGE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEASURING TECHNIQUE IN SHIPBUILDING
Traditional methods of measurement employing simple equipment are not considered to provide the necessary accuracy for control measurements in modern shipbuilding practice. Accordingly, many yards throughout the world are adopting new methods for the determination of assembly tolerances. The paper discusses the problems of hull assembly on the building berth and outlines the principles of a number of optical, laser-based and photogrammetric methods now being considered for use in East German shipyards.
