A NECESSITY IN FUTURE SHIP DESIGN

In operation, thruster installations may cause considerable noise. Special noise reducing features are essential when crew and/or passenger accommodation are in close proximity. In the new Thruster Noise Suppression Concept developed by Brodr Brunwoll the thruster tunnel is elastically-suspended over its total length within an outer tunnel which is welded to the hull structure. The use of separate seals and damping elements is another important feature. Used in conjunction with floating cabin structures, the new elastically suspended thrusters can reduce noise levels in accommodation areas by 20 to 25 dB<A>.
