SPECIAL FACTORS IN THE TRANSPORT OF PAPER ROLLS IN SEAGOING SHIPS

In this first part of an article dealing with the care of paper-roll cargoes <both newsprint and packing paper>, the Authors give some general information on these cargoes with particular reference to newsprint. Special factors and precautions necessary in the handling and transportation of these cargoes are then discussed under the headings:-- Packaging of a Roll for Transport; Handling of Rolls with Clamp-Type Stackers on the Quay and in the Ship; Preparation of the Quayside; Shipboard Facilities Required for the Transport of Paper Rolls; Requirements in the Holds; Stowing the Paper Rolls in the Hold and Securing them for the Voyage.
