AN OVERVIEW OF UK OFFSHORE STRUCTURAL RESEARCH
The sources and level of funding for U.K. supported research in Marine Technology are reviewed. More details are given on projects falling within the category of "steel structures". The funds relate to the two year period from mid-1983 to mid-1985. Results are then presented of recent structural research projects primarily concerned with ultimate strength limit state and reliability analysis. Examples are drawn from the damage strength of tubulars, the ultimate strength of stiffened cylinders under combined loading, the ultimate strength of hemispherical shells under external pressure, tanker models under rigid bow collisions, and reliability analysis studies and partial factor evaluation for stiffened cylinders.
