VEHICLE OPERATING COSTS IN TRANSPORT STUDIES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE WORK OF THE EIU IN AFRICA
The report examines the factors involved in vehicle operating costs, subdivided into both running and standing costs, and refers to published research results which relate some of these factors. Much information from transport studies in Africa is presented and discussed. In particular, emphasis is placed on the relative vehicle operating costs on roads of different types of surface, ranging from earth and gravel to good bitumen surfaces, and on different widths of roads. It is suggested that it is in these areas in particular that the cost differentials show considerable variation between studies. An extensive bibliography is included. /TRRL/
