THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GEOMETRICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS AND THEIR DEVIATIONS, AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE SPECIFICATION OF TOLERANCES

The Author, of Wilhelm Pieck University, Rostock, discusses the form and dimensions of hull structural elements <i.e., parts that comprise an assembly of two or more parts, and such assemblies forming part of larger assemblies> from the viewpoint of production tolerances and deviations and the theoretical basis for these quantities. There are several references to the new <Apr. 1981> edition of TGL 19080 and to other relevant East German standards. The article is arranged under the main headings:-- 1: Geometrical Characteristiucs of Structural Elements <Types of Element - Form of the Elements - Dimensions of the Elements - Dimensions and Position>. 2: Deviations <The Problem of Accuracy in Production - Types of Deviation - Relationships between the Different Types of Deviation>. 3: Problems in Establishing Tolerances.
