SENTINEL: A THIRD-GENERATION STANDBY RESCUE VESSEL SERIES

Skipskonsulent's Sentinel design of standby rescue vessel was described in the article covered by Abs. No. 57926 <Sept. 1982>. The first two of these boats, Sentinel Maria and Sentinel Cathinka, were built by Batservice Verft and are now in service with Kare Misje & Co., Norway's largest operator of standby vessels, who have another two of this design building at Vaagen Verft, with delivery expected in mid-1983. A fifth boat of this design is building at the Hellesoy yard for delivery to Jagima. The article, which includes general-arrangement drawings, describes this design. Principal particulars of Sentinel Maria and Sentinel Cathinka are:- Length, o.a. 46.3m, b.p. 42m; moulded breadth 11m, depth 5.1m; draught 3.7m; gross register 499 tons; capacities: bunkers 190 cum, fresh water 95 cum, water ballast 900 cum; two Caterpillar 8N580 Z main engines, 869 kW each at 1600 rpm, each driving an Aquamaster azimuth thruster; speed 13 knots; classification DnV + 1A1, EO, Rescue.
