REGRESSION RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE OUTPUT OF THE ELECTRIC POWER PLANT AND OTHER SHIP PARAMETERS

The Authors develop a general statistical method, based on regression analysis and multi-dimensional vector spaces, for finding correlation coefficients and dispersions between, on the one hand, the power output of the electric plant, and, on the other hand, various ship parameters such as output of propulsion machinery, ship displacement, cargo capacity, number of persons on board, and other parameters considered, a priori, to be significant. Resulting from this analysis, formulae are given for predicting the installed electric power in the following ship types: cargo ships for inland navigation, passenger ships, and tugs.
