SHAFT GENERATORS FOR SHIPS WITH A THREE-PHASE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
A shaft alternator should operate over as large a range of main- engine rpm as possible, so that the use of the ship' Diesel sets is minimised with a consequent saving in running and maintenance costs. The Author <of Wilhelm Pieck University, Rostock> describes how rectifier technology can be used to enable the necessary operational requirements to be met in the case of <i> variable propeller rpm and high powers, <ii> variable propeller rpm and low powers, and <iii> a shaft alternator supporting an exhaust-gas turbogenerator. Circuit diagrams of these arrangements are included.
